Earth Day Everyday

Happy Earth Day Weekend! Earth Day is a perfect opportunity not to only celebrate our planet but also to feel empowered to make new sustainable choices that will enhance our lives while helping the planet!

Approximately 1 billion people will participate in Earth Day this year by planting trees, cleaning up rivers and committing to minimizing the use of plastic bags. In support of this cause, I decided to create a list of a few steps you can incorporate to make sure you're living your best green life!

  • Make the switch towards Green makeup and skincare!

Green cosmetics are good for you and the environment! Just as organic food production reduces the amount of toxic pesticides leased upon the Earth, so too does organic makeup production. Plus, most eco-friendly makeup lines use recycled packaging, and soy-based inks, and generally stick to sustainable practices.

  • Recycle

Not just trash through your waste service but also clothes. Donate gently used items to non-profit organizations/consignment shops in your area. If the clothes are too worn, send them to a textile recycler.

  • Reduce and Reuse

Before you recycle make sure you are reducing and reusing. Reduce and reuse with reusable water bottles/coffee mugs, shopping and produce bags (like this cute one from Granola Goat!) , and metal/glass straws and reusable cutlery packs.

  • Change your light bulbs

Changing your light bulbs to more energy efficient bulbs conserves energy and helps your wallet!

  • Consider investing in reusable menstrual products

Products like a menstrual cup (ex. Diva Cup)  and reusable period underwear (ex. Thinx Underwear) I personally switched to both over a year ago and I'm absolutely loving it!

  • Support Fair Trade and Slow Fashion Brands

Fast Fashion Is the Second Dirtiest Industry in the World. Remember with fast fashion you might not be paying the full price but someone else always does! (read factory workers and the environment) Watch The True Cost Documentary to learn more. I've talked about my favorites sustainable brands here.

  • Use earth friendly cleaning and lawn products

 I personally love Seventh Generation!

  • Pay your bills online

Did you know switching to online-only invoices for your bills saves millions of trees a year?

  • Plant a tree

Plant a tree in your own backyard or join an organization to plant multiple trees.

  • Plant flowers

Our bees are in trouble but you can help by planting bee-friendly plants and flowers. 🐝

  • Leave the car at home

If possible use public transportation, bike or walk to work or school? If yes, you are making huge steps to protecting our planet!

  • Last but not least -

Our most serious environmental problems – climate change, overexploited natural resources, deforestation, wasted land, water and air pollution are all linked to the consumption of meat, eggs and dairy products. As they say: "An apple a day can help keep environmental destruction away." I would recommend watching Forks Over Knives and Cowspiracy if you haven't already!

As I mentioned in one of the steps, supporting sustainable companies is such an important and easy way to be more green! My absolute pick would have to be Au Naturale! Au Naturale doesn’t do an Earth Day, they dedicate the entire month to our amazing planet. For the entire month of April, Au Naturale has been donating 10% of their profits to Nature Conservancy as well as doing a weekly education series on their Clean Beauty Revolution blog. (there you can read about all the things they do to be as sustainable as possible)

And on top of all that goodness, throughout this weekend Au Naturale is having storewide sale event to celebrate you and your love for this planet! Click here to get 20% with code:
